Version needed for Google Voice

I am just getting started with this, and was thinking about setting up a unused Cisco 7960 IP phone (that needs to be flashed to SIP) in our home so we can have a “land line” if needed…

What version of Asterisk do I need that will allow me to use the number I have for my Google Voice number? And are there good instructions on how to set this up?

Do I need the whole PBX install? Or just Asterisk? It would be perfect if I could install this on my wireless router, a Linksys WRT54G or Linksys WRT320N

Thanks for helping out a newbie

You are trying to run before you can walk.

As a newbie, unless you can answer those questions for yourself, you should be using designed for the purpose SIP hard phones, a SIP ITSP and a dedicated PC running CentOS.

There seems to be a disproportionate number of converted Cisco users who have problems; Google is a minority area - it is probably only supported by the community, not by Digium itself; and routers are difficult environments to work in if you are not familar with the software in the environment for which it was originally designed.

I’m afraid that, if you continue your current course, you will be coming back here too often and people’s willingness to give free consultancy will wane.
