Upgrading Asterisk 16 to 22

Hello,
My current system is running Asterisk 16 and I would like to upgrade it to Asterisk 22. However, I have some hesitations as there is a major direct upgrade from 16 to 22:

  1. Is it possible to upgrade or do I have to install from scratch?
  2. If I do an upgrade, which steps should I pay attention to?
  3. Will the configuration files (pjsip.conf, manager.conf etc.) and modules be compatible?
  4. What major changes are there and will I have backward compatibility issues?

chan_sip has been completely removed.

Macros have been completely removed.

Some lesser used modules have also been removed.
