I am brand new to Asterisk. I would like to know if it possible make a call to an Asterisk system from an external location and make an anouncement over all speaker phones on the Lan on which Asterisk is installed? Effectively making a public announcement from a remote location.
Yes its possible but your phones need to support auto-answer header.

Note. You will need to enable this in the phones, as there are security issues with doing this. Once you’ve enabled it on the phones, make sure that no outsider can directly address the phones.
