I am a newbie and I would like to make an PSTN to PSTN gateway.
I assume that this kind of the service can be achieved using Asterisk.
However I am looking for low cost hardware compatible with Asterisk being able to handle 2 normal telephone lines (not ISDN).
Can anybody help me?

Look for the TDM400P line cards. Those can have two analog lines in them.

The same cards can also be configured (with the correct daughterboards) to handle analog phones as well.
Be aware, though, that those boards almost certainly won’t work everywhere in the world. When you’re asking for help with your telephony requirements, you have to say what country you’re in. Different countries have different systems.
