PSTN setup problems

#1

Hi i am very new to asterisk and am trying to set it up to dial out through an intel 536 Modem and can not get the config right.

I dont really know what files i need to change or what to put in them.

I am running Fedora Core2 as a base for asterisk.

has someone got some sample configs that i could use to do this?

Thanks

You can’t use a modem.
If you want to connect your phoneline to your asterisk box, you need an FXO card.
See asterisk.org/index.php?menu=hardware

Hope this helps,

Leo

Thanks for that I have just ordered an FXO card

cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? … eName=WDVW

Is it straight forward to setup with an FXO card?

i suggest you to buy another one, you will only run into problems with the one you bought.

Buy one from digium (tdmxxx are very good) , they come with 1 hour of free support.

The one i bought seems to work ok however i am getting an echo that i cant seem to stop? Could this be one of the problems you were meaning?

Why I cannot use voice modem replace for FXO card?

I don’t know.

because a modem is for making data calls and an fxo card is for making voice calls. the same sort of reason as why you can’t connect your gas cooker to the electicity supply!
