Hi, I’m using GUI front end to configure a paging group. Members added etc. and when I call it the devices all auto answer. The issue I have is that they are all unmuted. I’ve had a little play and if I uncomment “startmuted=yes;” in confbridge.conf then all devies auto answer muted. However what I am trying to achieve is for the initial caller to remain unmuted, i.e. they should be able to make an announcement and those that wish to join the conference can then unmute using the DTMF menu item.
I’m not very familar with Asterisk, so maybe I’m trying to make changes in the wrong place, or just missing the correct syntax. Any help much appreciated.
Asterisk GUI was abandoned years ago. FreePBX is supported on https://community.freepbx.org/ and other GUIs have their own support arrangements.
Asterisk doesn’t define the term “paging group”.
Sorry - I’m using a GUI - I didn’t define which one. Stepping away from an undefined term for a moment and just concentrating on the confbridge, I’ve read the documentation on it and can’t find a way to achieve my aim. So my questions really are whether what I want is possible at all, whether I’m looking inthe right area to achieve it, or if I’m completely off the mark and need to be looking elsewhere.

Asterisk does not have a GUI front end.
You are probably using FreePBX, whose support forum is at
If you are not using FreePBX, please tell us which GUI you are workign with.

The GUI is a red herring, all want to know is can I achieve my aim from a purely asterisk perspective, and am I looking in the right area with the confbridge or are there other places I could be looking?
Unfortunately this is not clear it me:
If it only means all users using default profile, the answer is yes. Otherwise the answer may be no.
Paging is is a question of disabling safeties on the phone, then adding the appropriate header to cause it to auto answer (I’m assuming a SIP phone; it isn’t possible for an analogue one).
Adding them to the conference is a question of using Originate.
Hi,
Thanks. That’s given me some ideas. I’ll have a play around. All devices are identical and auto answer already. They also have their own built in mute feature but the manufacturer isn’t being very helpful, hence I was trying to look at it from another angle.
I’ll post back with any findings.
Hi, I’ve found a workable solution between the GUI options and editing the confbridge.conf. Not certain which files were affected by my change in the GUI, but none I was looking at, and none that are date stamped today. I’ll have a proper look around later. Long and short I made it a simplex page and then enabled the DTMF menu for mute/unmute in confbridge.conf.
