Number of IP Phones supported on Asterisk (in general)?

I have a general Asterisk Design question. What is a typical number of registered endpoints can a standard Asterisk server support?

I know that the hardware, CPU, and memory may make a difference, but I want to know typical numbers.

For example, a single Cisco CallManager server (smaller hardware) can support up to 2500 IP phones. What is that number for Asterisk (in general)? Thanks!


i really don’t think there is a limit you can define. after all, phone/endpoint type, protocol have an impact, registration time can be varied from seconds to hours, hints impact on network traffic and capacity, whether Asterisk is just doing call setup and teardown etc etc.
