Music on hold can't be heard unless you make noise into mic

Hi All,

I am seeking some help with a system. I have uploaded custom music on hold sound files, however when I go to test it, it only plays when a noise is made back down the line.

So when a user goes on hold they hear nothing until they make a noise and then they will hear 2 secs of the hold music before it stops. If the user makes constant noise the music on hold will play normally.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what I might be able to do?

Does this happen on just one phone? If so, look for a silence suppression setting on that phone and try changing it.

You don’t have a timing source. Enable internal timing, install dahdi, if you don’t already have it.

Note the details differ for Asterisk 1.8.
