Is asterisk the right choice for me? #voicemailbox #API

I’m very new to askterisk, and have no clue if this is what I am looking for.

Basically what I need is a open source telephone-engine, that is able to handle many voicemail-boxes for my customers. (currently handling 500+ voicemail-boxes, but it should be able to scale potentially unlimited horizontly)

What features I need:

  • create a new voicemail-box (incl. phone number) via API call
  • be able to upload and later also update mp3/wav/whatever audiofiles to each voicemail-box individually
  • be notified, as soon as a new call has reached the voicemail-box and also if the caller left a message
  • be able to scale voicemail-boxes horizontly

It would be great, if you could help me telling me if asterisk is the right choice for me, and what features/modules i should dig into.

Posting this question on an Asterisk forum is 100 % that you will get that the Answer is yes. Asterisk is VOIP framework, a toolkit you can do this with a combination of Asterisk and other tools like DB real time arquitecture , Programing language like php, python
