Integrating with existing switchboard

Hi,

I am currently running Trixbox 2 with a Sangoma a200 fx0 card.
What I am wanting to know is how could i connect to my existing digital switchboard system (Nitsuko)? What functionallity would that provide me? And is it actually worth while?

Alternatively is there a way to utilise the digital handsets from the existing system within the Asterisk environment to save on purchasing of new handsets.

So you have a PBX and you dont want to replace the phones hook-up to it. Thats cool, just connect Asterisk to the PBX. You can use the Sangoma card. Then you will be able to call from phones on the PBX to phones on Asterisk, and vice-versa. Thats if I understood you correctly

Thanks for the reply.

That is exactly what I want to do, I am not sure exactly how to go about it though?

Not too hard to do. You have the Sangoma, thats analogue. So get a line from the PBX, from the PBX side it should be a trunk, not an extension. For calls from PBX the * : Then send calls from the PBX based on a rule on prefix or something. Then when it hits asterisk, configure zapata withe the correct context, and the call will come in there. For calls from * to PBX, just dial ZAP/… from *

Thanks again. So I need to somehow edit the config of our existing switchboad. It was unfortunately installed and maintained by an external party. Would they need to assist me? Or with a couple of guide lines would I be able to figure it out? Do youe have any ideas?

Nick

you’ll need a cable, probably serial, to connect to the PBX and a terminal program or specialist software (but probably the former).

most telecoms supports i have come across guard config info carefully … but have a google … e.g. twacomm.com/catalog/jmp_Equi … id_182.htm
