Hardware Advice: Have PCI-X, need single FXO

I have an Asterisk installation on an HP Proliant server with 2 PCI-X ports. It’s already being used with an IAX provider, but I want to add FXO for internal voicemail only.

Can anyone recommend a PCI-X FXO card or, alternatively, whether I should try going with an ethernet media gateway or one of the few USB FXO adapters.

Budget is a concern, as we only have 2 extensions but want voicemail to email.

Thanks for any advice,
Jason

I think you’re mistaken about what the FXO card is used for. FXO interfaces have nothing to do with voicemail.

However, if you decide you need one, the “smallest” FXO card made by Digium is a 4-port one.

I am an authorized Digium partner…so if you need a quote, PM me.

I have a POTS line and want to replace an analog answering machine with a dedicated Asterisk box. AFAIK, the only way to get a POTS line to work as an input channel for Asterisk is to use a FXO card.

I only have one line and virtually no budget for this, so I don’t think any Digium card will work. At this point, I’m looking at one of the various Ethernet routers/channel banks that will act as a SIP endpoint - I know there’s a Linksys in the $100 range, and that’s about the most I can pay…

Aah. Yes, you’ll need a FXO card.

Yes, I’m afraid Digium’s solution will be a little more than $100. You could get the 4-port card but only buy 1 interface…but the cost will still be substantially higher.

There are ways to do it…if you search long and hard enough, you’ll find the information you need. But it takes a sale away from Digium, so I cannot, in good conscience, support it.

Linksys, to my knowledge, does not make a FXO device…most of their stuff is ATAs for FXS or IP phones. You don’t need a SIP endpoint…you need an analog trunk interface.
