Fax using pots line hardware suggestion?

Dear Fax Expert,

I am using a generic voicemodem card on a pots line. (no voip)
However the system is not detecting faxes. What am I doing wrong? Would an upgrade in hardware fix the problem?

This is a snip of the code…

"snip…
exten => 1,1,Goto(${ENTER_EXTEN},pin)
exten => 2,1,Playback(beep)
exten => 2,n,Goto(fax,1)
;exten => 2,n,NvFaxDetect(30)
exten => 2,n,Goto(ENTER_EXTEN,1)

exten => fax,1,Set(RX_FAX=“YES”)
exten => fax,n,Set(FAXFILE=/var/spool/asterisk/fax/${UNIQUEID}.tif)
exten => fax,n,Set(EMAILADDR=${faxemail})
exten => fax,n,rxfax(${FAXFILE})
exten => fax,n(hangup),Hangup()

exten => h,1,GotoIf($["${RX_FAX}" = “YES”]?:h,3)
exten => h,2,system(/var/lib/asterisk/bin/fax-process.pl --to

${EMAILADDR} --from ${FAX_RX_FROM} --subject "Fax from

${URIENCODE(${CALLERID(number)})} ${URIENCODE(${CALLERID(name)})}"

–attachment fax_${URIENCODE(${CALLERID(number)})}.pdf --type

application/pdf --file ${FAXFILE});
exten => h,3,HangUp()
snip…"

Thank you

Do you mean an X100P clone? It is hardly possible to use a generic voice MODEM other than an X100P clone with Asterisk.

While you posted snippets of extensions.conf, what really matters is zapata.conf. How is it set up?

Thank you for your valued response.

I failed to mention that I have been receiving faxes through the IAX service from voicepulse.com although I turned it off since they were usually spam faxes.

here is the file you requested from /etc/asterisk/ if it is not correct file please let me know. Thank you

I’m even more confused about your setup. If you used IAXmodem to receive FAX via IAX, why you need voice MODEM? If you are using a voice MODEM from a POTS line, is it an X100P clone? Have you configured Zaptel driver for it? What are the two FXO ports indicated in zapata.conf? Maybe you can start over and paint a clear picture.

I have qty 2 X100P clone pci cards. One is for outgoing local calls and the other is for incoming faxes only.

I did not configure the card someone else did. Now I am trying to go backwards into the system to see what was done and how to possibly correct.

I thought that reliability would be better if I used a POTS line for receiving faxes rather than IAX connection. So even though it was working before, I thought it would work better through a hardwired device.

I hope this clears up some things…

Maybe you can clarify which channel is used for incoming FAX? It seems that faxdetect is enabled in channel 1 but not in channel 2. Could that be the problem?

OK I was told to disable things in the bios which I didnt need. I didnt have access to the server until recently.

sorry for the delay.

This is a copy of the asterisk output.

It goes through a few menus so it really doesnt start until 2/3 down the page. Also the fax tone starts I start fax and then I get a error message on my fax machine.

Ths number is 503-629-8406 option 3… then box 201 … then option 2 for fax…

This is what I just disabled in the bios. Audio etc to free up resources…
