Please let me know if any one of you ar ehaving issues with faxing things. This seems to be an ongoing problem for us as well as an end user who we resell to.
Are you trying to do fax using VOIP? (analog connection that becomes a VOIP link to another analog connection?)
Because that will not work…

Fax => FXS => * => IAX => * => FXS => Fax
Above combination works for me. I have used U-law codec.
Faxing can be a complicated topic (and I only know very little about it, but I have a simple setup working at home). To help, we need to know more about your requirements.
Faxing from, to, or both?
Fax machine connected to asterisk? How?
Remote fax accessed via VoIP or PSTN?
Do you want hardcopy fax, or will, for example, fax->pdf->email work?
