Fax For Asterisk and Host-ID generation

I am currently running Asterisk 1.6 on a OpenVZ VPS. I cannot generate the host-id using register, as the MAC address is 00:00:00:00:00:00

Does register rely upon eth0 only? Or other interfaces are supported? I am checking with my host to see if a MAC address can be added to venet0, but if register only uses eth0, I’ll have to find another solution.

Any help is appreciated.
