I’m a student with interest in Astrisk but unfortunately my budget is quite limited so I can’t really justify setting up a system if it is not cost effective. I do have a bit of Linux administration experience and I’m confident that setting up and Asterisk system will not be a big problem.
What I would like to do is to set up an VPS (I already have found a few good deals) and then use a VOIP provider to allow free calling to landlines (in The Netherlands) and cheap SMS. I would prefer to run this all from my Android phone (HTC Desire). I have a few questions that I cannot answer very easily but that I’m very interested in anyway.
Would it be possible to use a Astrisk system with my Android phone?
Would it be possible to use SMS with Astriks?
Is there any indication what SMS will cost with an VOIP provider?
Would you recommended that I setup this system or would I be better of paying a higher phone bill (1000 sms/monthly costs about 10 euro, more phone minutes will also cost about the same)?
