Conversion from asterisk talaw to wav

I recently received a talaw file for a project. When looking at the metadata, I found that it was created using asterisk.
I need to convert this to wav, which I can using ffmpeg, but the output is very noisy. My assumption is that the file is ALAW and the ‘t’ in TALAW is just because of this added metadata in the file, though I’m not sure.
Please can someone guide me on what I should do here?

I have never heard of that extension being used by Asterisk.

If it were an Asterisk format, Asterisk itself could be used to convert to other Asterisk formats, using a CLI command.

Please post more details.

What is the name of the file?

What does file <name-of-file> show?

How are you displaying the metadata? What does it show?
