Call From PSTN to VoIP and Vise versa!

Hi
I have a question about hardware using for connecting the PSTN to voip … Is it possible to use an external gateway device instead of digium/voicetronix PCI cards for connecting PSTN/Voip together ?
a cu-121 gateway is already exist with a rj11 port which have an connector (or splitter ) with 2 rj11 ports ! one for PSTN line another for telephone …
This gateway can make an analog phone to be a VoIP Phone ! This procedure is that , the gateway has an OS (web interface) which can register it by sip account added by asterisk … also has a few other features such as adding the dial peer by its own !
This device also has an Ethernet interface which can use it on the internet …
So it can convert an analog phone to VoIP phone , and can register by asterisk to communicate to VoIP phones …
and at last this is my question :
Does asterisk know the ethernet port instead of an pci device (digium) to configure it to communicate the PSTN to VoIP ?!
I want when a VoIP user dial to this device and the phone rings , can forward the call to a PSTN line , or vise versa !
When a VoIP user by added extension in asterisk dials to gateway ( its own extension ) , and then want to forward this call to a PSTN , in the asterisk says the extension is not found or similar errors …
because that the asterisk cannot understand this gateway as a device so cannot configure zapata and we don’t know which module should be load to make that device usable by asterisk
sorry for long story !
Thanks a lot to your dear friends

Yes, it is.

Yes, just register the device to Asterisk.

Hi
Thanks dear mbruni for your reply
but , as i mentioned in the first post , i registered the device to asterisk ! and the voip users can dial to phone which connected to this gateway ! but cannot forward the call from the gateway to an PSTN phone number ! also PSTN users can dial to that phone , but cannot forward the PSTN call to VoIP users !!! what’s wrong ?! what do i should to do ?! If i have to add an extension to understand PSTN to dial to VoIP and vise versa , what’s its procedure ?!
what’s the configuration to use the gateway ports as the fxs , fxo ports ?! many things are obscure for me ! Please help me to know how to transfer calls from PSTN to VoIP and VoIP to PSTN … some times googled and found a few posts which have not right answers …
Thanks for your patience …
With the best regards

What type of gateway are you using ? Cu-121 doesn’t means a lot to me, please specify better.

Hi
Thanks dear friend
this is the manual document of this gateway : w14.easy-share.com/15699531.html
can i use this device to connect an telephone line to it and call pstn <-> voip ?
Thanks a lot
Regards …

No, seems you can’t use, seems the pstn is used only for lifeline support, try ask the manufacturer.
