I installed AsteriskNOW (recent downloaded version), and it went well. though when it rebooted and started the updates, it is now going on about 1 hour, with no change to the screen. i don’t know if there is some sort of error i am not seeing, or what. i don’t dare reset the server for fear of data corruption.
any thoughts?

If you just installed you should have little fear of data corruption, you don’t have any data yet 
I tried a reset, and upon reboot, it spilled a few errors, though i don’t remember what they were about. i am going to try a reinstall and see if it repairs things.
is there a way to get verbose output while it is doing the updates, so i can see if and where it goes wrong?

There, it completed the install and update. turned out to be a bad (glitchy) ethernet cable.
