Asterisk Codec - G729

Hai Everyone,

I have installed an asterisk server version 16.1.1 and I have a SIP trunk from Telecom provider. And My telecom provider is providing me the g729 Codec on the SIP Trunk.

Telecom providers already have licensed to use the g729 codec and whether still I need to purchase a G729 codec license to configure this SIP trunk on my asterisk server?

You will need licenses if any transcoding is needed (e.g. conferences, music on hold/voice announcements, not already in G.729, etc.).

To avoid consuming licences, you will need to ensure any originates are done with an explicit codec, if using local channels, as the default is signed linear.
