Asking for startup advice

Hi,
I am charged with the research project to install Asterisk on cloud server. Can someone please send me:

  1. server requirements
  2. Asterisk installation manual
    3.Freepbx installation manual

I am looking for advice of any kind since I am not even sure if this installation can be done in the cloud or locally.

thank you.

Hi,

We can’t tell you that without knowing what you want the system to do. Is
this just some “proof of concept” toy system that will have a couple pf phones
connected and not really do much (in which case it’ll happily run on a
Raspberry Pi or equivalent), or is this a commercial project which is going to
have dozens of users or more?

  1. Asterisk installation manual

There are two main ways of installing Asterisk:

  1. Using a package manager for your Operating System - in which case the
instructions are provided by the people behind the O/S

  2. Compiling from source: a good enough place to start with this is
    Home - Asterisk Documentation

3.Freepbx installation manual

This is not a FreePBX forum - that is an entirely separate project which
builds PBX functionality on top of the Asterisk engine.

Getting Started | FreePBX - Let Freedom Ring is probably a good place to start, and
then ask further questions on the FreePBX forum.

I am looking for advice of any kind since I am not even sure if this
installation can be done in the cloud or locally.

Both are entirely possible and not uncommon.

Hi Anthony,

my goal is to create a call center with agents doing online surveys. I want to be able to considerably lower the commercial license costs and make thousand calls per day to various countries, connect the call center with the ERP and provide automatic reporting of the work done.

Well, you can certainly do that with Asterisk. It’s a big project.

My opinions on your objectives:

  1. (considerably lower commercial licence costs) - Asterisk has no licence
costs, but you still need to pay for the infrastructure it runs on, and the
expertise to keep it doing what you want

  2. (make thousand calls per day) - not a problem; you’ll need suitable
external connectivity (presumably SIP) for this, which costs money

  3. (to various countries) - shouldn’t be a problem so long as you have a
    competent connectivity provider

  4. (connect to ERP) - an interesting challenge (ie: non-trivial, don’t under-
estimate the costs, timescales and expertise needed to do this)

  5. (provide automatic reporting) - how long is a piece of string? Anyone who
wants automated reports will always want more and/or something different. Be
careful with the specifications or this will become an unending drain on money
    and resources.

Antony.
