app_conference on asterisk 1.4

Hi,

I would like to use app_conference instead of MeetMe. I read that app_conference is not (yet) working with asterisk 1.4. Is that true?

Moreover, as the documentation of app_conference looks very old and outdated, is it recommended to use app_conference in the future? Dose anybody take care of its development?
