So I see lots of talk about using SIP and SCCP images on Cisco IP phones with Asterisk, but what are the pros and cons of using the different images with Asterisk?
Just trying to decide which way to go for my new setup.
Thanks,
Greg

Basically, I prefer to use SIP on my Cisco phones because that is the main interface for Asterisk. The skinny and SCCP add-ons for Asterisk are almost as petulant and buggy as the SIP firmware for Cisco phones.
Either way, it’s a pain in the ass.
I’ve spent the better part of the last three months working to get Asterisk to work properly with all features for two different models of Cisco phones, and I’ve just now got it all working. I would most definitely recommend staying away from the Cisco phones unless you’re very experienced with them or you’re using a system like EvolutionPBX which can auto-provision them for you.
