Whoops! Upgr 1.4 to 1.6, now Asterisk don't start

The installation seemed to go smoothly enough, but post-install, 1.4 was still running, so I rebooted the box. Now Asterisk won’t start.

/var/run/asterisk.ctl does exist, although it’s zero bytes long.

and the log file has more bad news:

should I just uninstall everything and start again? I really don’t know where to start with this.

don’t know how much it helps, but syslog has this to say:
Sep 9 07:43:32 PhoneBox kernel: [ 35.614314] asterisk[2456] general protection ip:7f8ecbcf3c40 sp:7fffd42023d8 error:0 in libc-2.9.so[7f8ecbc73000+168000]
Check if in /usr/lib/asterisk/modules/ there are 1.4 modules left.

Cheers.

there are hundreds of files in there - all with .so extension. How do I know which ones are 1.4? I do see that some of them are not executable at the moment, don’t know if that makes any difference?

OK, got past that one… I renamed /usr/lib/asterisk/modules and re-installed 1.6, Asterisk now wakes up.

In the meantime, of course, the GUI packed up, but hopefully I can live without it now that I’m finding my feet. Worse (and isn’t coincidence a bitch?) my Grandstream BT100 died at the same time. AAAAAAAAAARGH! Maybe I should just give up on this entire project and order some new POTS lines instead.
