Successfully Converting Cisco 7821 & 8865 to MPP?

Hi everyone,

Has anyone here successfully converted Cisco Enterprise phones to MPP firmware?

The models I’m trying to convert are:

- Cisco 7821

- Cisco 8865

I’d like to know:

- Which procedure you used;

- Which migration firmware worked;

- Whether a downgrade or intermediary firmware was required;

- And if the process was done via TFTP, GUI, or SSH.

Any experience, tips, or documentation would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I am planning on doing 2 of these this week sometime.

did you buy the update licenses yet?

Ted

Yes, it’s possible to convert some 7800/8800 Enterprise phones to MPP, but Cisco officially requires a migration license tied to the phone MAC address.

In my case, I’m not using CUCM. I’m running Asterisk and reusing Cisco phones that were donated from a former CUCM deployment.

For the 7821 and 8865, the usual migration path involves an intermediate Enterprise firmware and then the MPP migration firmware. Cisco’s official process uses the Enterprise-to-MPP conversion packages (E2M) and a migration license generated for each device MAC.

The documents below mention the supported models and migration process:

- 7821 (hardware revision dependent)

- 8865

- Migration via TFTP or Cisco Cloud Upgrader

I’ve seen deployments where the phones were first upgraded to a supported Enterprise release and then migrated to MPP using the conversion firmware package.

Are your phones currently registered to CUCM, or are they standalone? Also, what hardware revision (VID) are the 7821s?
