Sip 401 unauthorized external connection to asterisk

hello,

i have:

asterisk version: 11.2.1
snom320 phone with firmware: 8.7.3.19
Firewall: Juniper SRX240h with Junos: 12.1.X44-D10.4

i want to connect a external snom phone (e.g from homeoffice) to our asterisk-server in our company.
on our juniper firewall we openend the port for sip 5060 and rport 2048. and in the firewall-log is nothing blocked. I enable and disable the SIP ALGs too, but no change.
If i enable sip-debuging on the asterisk, it comes following messages:

does anybody have an idea why i don`t connect me to my asterisk from external?

thanks in advance for help!!

The phone is behind a remote NAT, but doesn’t seem to be aware of that, so is sending its private address. However, Asterisk is replying to its pubic address, so that may not yet be an issue.

My guess is that you have no port forwarding on the remote NAT router, so the SIP replies are not getting beyond that router.

If you are unable to configure the phone for use behind NAT, you will need to configure the router to port forward all UDP with port numbers of 1024 or greater to the phone, or you will need it to parse the SIP and dynamically create forwarding rules.

Most report on SIPALG say it is likely to be broken, and make things worse.

If you don’t make the phone aware, you may find you have to tweak options on Asterisk to get it to send to the right place in all cases, but it is directing the replies as best as could be expected, at the moment.

PS the 401 is not an error. The error is that it is not reaching the phone, so the phone is retrying on a timeout, rather than re-sending with correct authentication data.

hello,

thanks for the help.

i solved the problem with the sip registration. it was the router in the home office. i opened the port 2048 to the ip of my snom-phone in the home-offce.

now i have another problem:

The asterisk-server in the company network sends the RTP-Traffic directly to the IP-Address to my snom-phone in the home-offce, and that doesn’t work of course.

asterisk rtp debugging:

Sent RTP packet to 192.168.178.21:19108 (type 00, seq 061682, ts 076960, len 000160) Sent RTP packet to 192.168.178.21:19108 (type 00, seq 061683, ts 077120, len 000160) Sent RTP packet to 192.168.178.21:19108 (type 00, seq 061684, ts 077280, len 000160) Sent RTP packet to 192.168.178.21:19108 (type 00, seq 061685, ts 077440, len 000160) Sent RTP packet to 192.168.178.21:19108 (type 00, seq 061686, ts 077600, len 000160) Sent RTP packet to 192.168.178.21:19108 (type 00, seq 061687, ts 077760, len 000160) Sent RTP packet to 192.168.178.21:19108 (type 00, seq 061688, ts 077920, len 000160) Sent RTP packet to 192.168.178.21:19108 (type 00, seq 061689, ts 078080, len 000160)

Firewall Log:

Normally the rtp-traffic must go to the offical-ip of my router in the home office (217.92.X.X)

How can i solve this problem?

Thanks in advance

best regards.

This is really due to the phone not being NAT aware. However, it is also the case for which the nat= parameter was intended. Whilst it is often used unnecessarily, in this case you will need to use it.

I’ve never had to use it in anger, so I’m not sure which options you need in your case.

thx for help.

i set a STUN Server in the Webinterface of the Snom-Phone, now the public IP is transmitted.
But now i can only call from the webinterface (webinterface addresed with the public ip of the homeoffice)
Also in the rtp debugging is the public ip:

Sent RTP packet to 217.92.X.X:53148 (type 00, seq 020194, ts 072160, len 000160) Sent RTP packet to 217.92.X.X:53148 (type 00, seq 020195, ts 072320, len 000160) Sent RTP packet to 217.92.X.X:53148 (type 00, seq 020196, ts 072480, len 000160) Sent RTP packet to 217.92.X.X:53148 (type 00, seq 020197, ts 072640, len 000160

if i call directly from my snom-phone in the homeoffice, it uses the private ip address:

Sent RTP packet to 192.168.178.21:50314 (type 00, seq 031855, ts 010880, len 000160) Sent RTP packet to 192.168.178.21:50314 (type 00, seq 031856, ts 011040, len 000160) Sent RTP packet to 192.168.178.21:50314 (type 00, seq 031857, ts 011200, len 000160) Sent RTP packet to 192.168.178.21:50314 (type 00, seq 031858, ts 011360, len 000160)

Can someone help me in this case?

In addition again the problem with the sip registration:

Yet we have an old Asterisk Version in use (Version: 1.4.37), on this asterisk it’s possible to connect the phone in the homeoffice to my asterisk in the company network without open the port 2048 on the router in the homeoffice
The Snom at home can simply connect on the network at home and i only must set Account, Password, Registrar, Outbound Proxy und Authentication Username in the webinterface from the phone and the connection is complete and it works. I don`t open a port at the router in the homeoffice or i set a STUN Server.

The only differences is the Asterisk Version (1.4.37) and in front of the Asterisk ist a Astaro Firewall, not a Juniper.
The same ports are opened at the Astaro and the Juniper Firewall.

SIP Debug of both Asterisk-Server:

SIP Debug of old 1.4.37 Asterisk (external connection works without problems)
