Is there a way to assign a pin or password for long distance calls? If so how to set this up?

you would either need an AGI script or some dialplan logic in your outbound context. It is certainly possible.
Hi this can be as simple or as hard as you like.
In a simple way
just add authenticate to the dial plan for international calls.
this can be a fixed pin or a usernumber/pin or a cli/pin combination
very simple to deploy and wouldnt need an AGI or any complicated logic at all. see voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk+cmd+authenticate for details on using authenticate
