Phone cards in the pc-is Digium the only option?

I’m really confused on this issue, are the Digium cards the only ones we can use, or are there others? If there are others, could you please direct me to them, and documentation on them?

Thanks!

Yes, there are others that will work as well. However, do you have a reason as to why you are trying to avoid Digium? As a newbie, it would be easier to get support by using their gear on Asterisk.

I have nothing against Digium, I’m just trying to find the absolute cheapest items! That’s all, I’m just a cheapskate! Is there a list of other devices that can be used?

To avoid confusion, just take a look at the list of supported hardware:

If you don’t want to use the Digium cards, you can use Dialogic ones.
If you choose to do that, you will need the Asterisk Business Edition.

At Astricon, I was talking about hardware alternatives with “Dude” Dixon, the creator of the Zapata cards sold by Digium. He told me that he published the schematics of the cards on the Internet and placed them in the public domain.

So, Cheapskate, just build your own cards…

Hmmm…I just wish to learn as inexpensively as possible. Thanks to those who posted positively, and if anyone can point to any alternatives, it’d be greatly appreciated!

thanks again!
