Many asterisk processes when starting with safe_asterisk

Hi All,

I have this issue which is not a problem but bothers me.
When I start asetrisk (automatically) using the safe_asterisk script, I get many asterisk processes running:
[root@hpzvik src]# ps -ef | grep aster
root 2133 1 0 10:50 ? 00:00:00 /bin/sh /usr/sbin/safe_asterisk
root 2158 2133 0 10:50 ? 00:00:00 asterisk -vvvg
root 2181 2158 0 10:50 ? 00:00:00 asterisk -vvvg
root 2183 2181 0 10:50 ? 00:00:00 asterisk -vvvg
root 2184 2181 0 10:50 ? 00:00:00 asterisk -vvvg
root 2185 2181 0 10:50 ? 00:00:00 asterisk -vvvg
root 2187 2181 0 10:50 ? 00:00:00 asterisk -vvvg
root 2189 2181 0 10:50 ? 00:00:00 asterisk -vvvg
root 2190 2181 0 10:50 ? 00:00:00 asterisk -vvvg
root 2191 2181 0 10:50 ? 00:00:00 asterisk -vvvg
root 2192 2181 0 10:50 ? 00:00:03 asterisk -vvvg
root 2193 2181 0 10:50 ? 00:00:00 asterisk -vvvg
root 2194 2181 0 10:50 ? 00:00:00 asterisk -vvvg
root 2195 2181 0 10:50 ? 00:00:00 asterisk -vvvg
root 2196 2181 0 10:50 ? 00:00:00 asterisk -vvvg
root 2197 2181 0 10:50 ? 00:00:00 asterisk -vvvg
root 2198 2181 0 10:50 ? 00:00:00 asterisk -vvvg
root 2199 2181 0 10:50 ? 00:00:00 asterisk -vvvg
root 2843 2813 0 10:51 pts/1 00:00:00 rasterisk r
root 2844 2181 0 10:51 ? 00:00:00 asterisk -vvvg
root 3220 2930 0 11:34 pts/2 00:00:00 grep aster

Asterisk functions fine and everything looks OK.
Why there are 17 instances of Asterisk? Is it fine?
Can I get only a single asterisk proces running?, How?

Thanks
zvika
