Firewall Question

Hi All,

I have an Asterisk server on a public IP address at my office, outside the firewall.

My SIP handsets are inside the firewall using private addresses.

They can register, and can make sucessful outgoing calls.

However, the handsets cannot call each other, if I dial from one to the other, I get unavailable (voicemail). Also, the server cannot ring the handsets when an incoming PSTN call comes in, it tries to ring them but then goes straight to voicemail.

Do I need to do something on the firewall?

Incase you are wondering the setup is as follows.

2 public IP’s - one for the Ast server and one for Ext interface of firewall.
internal interface of firewall and all PC’s and sip phones have private addresses.

Thanks,

Seabro

can i ask why you have the Asterisk server outside the firewall ??

it would make life so much easier if it was inside. what firewall is it ? i would think that unless it had a SIP “tracker/helper” you would have a world of pain getting this to work.

Hi BB,

Good question.

The firewall is an sme server (www.contribs.org).

Initially, I put the server outside the firewall because I was having problems connecting to one ITSP.

However, with it outside the firewall I still have the same problem connecting to the ITSP AND I have this handset problem. I guess it would make sense to move it back to the LAN.

OK willdo tommorow. Thanks!
