Hi,
I have Digium ISDN BRI cards connected to a “gateway” my telephony provider has installed on-premise. The gateways are then connected via ethernet to a VPN router/modem. So in other words, these “gateways” are similar to ATAs.
I am receiving calls and faxes on these lines.
I use ReceiveFax() in the dialplan (no iaxmodem, no hylafax).
Some faxes are received OK. Others give an error such as:
T.30 ECM carrier not found
I don’t know exactly what that means.
The ecm option in res_fax.conf is commented out so I gues it’s on by default.
The settings ‘maxrate’, ‘minrate’, ‘modems’ are all commented out (default).
t38timeout=5000 is also the default in that file.
I’m not sure if T.38 applies though in my case…
I have a BRI card, but I’m supposing the gateways/ATAs are using a VoIP technology.
Someone suggested to lower maxrate to 9600. Is it recommended when using gateways/ATAs?
Should I also disable ECM? What’s the downside of doing so? I think ECM is required if I want to make sure the faxes are received correctly.
Anything else I should try?
