Early media not working

Hi All,

trying to play a message before call is answerd.

Here portion of code should doing it:

At SIP level I see the 183 message sent to provider but I always hear ringback tone and not message that should be played.

My question is, Is there something wrong on my configuration or could be SIP provider that doesn’t pass in band audio (eraly media) ?

You need to show the SIP trace (pjsip set logger on) and the RTP debug (rtp debug on). If Asterisk is sending media, then there’s nothing you can do and they could very well not be allowing it.

From my knoledge seams that everything it’s working as aspected, but carrier not supporing it.

The SIP INVITE would have been nice to confirm the SDP and RTP target IP/port.

Anyway I looked at it and I am sure that endpoint (destination IP and port) are correct.

Reflects the one received from incoming INVITE (sip provider)

I suppose the only thing that I can do is ask to SIP provider about it…

I’d expect most providers to either reject early media, or severely limit its duration, otherwise you could operate a recorded information service, without their getting any revenue. (Germany may be an exception.)

For info, I have just dialled a number (in the UK) from a NetCologne line in
Germany. The number goes to an Asterisk dialplan context which simply does:

Progress()
Playback(silence/1&privacy-incorrect,noanswer)
Hangup(21)

I can’t check the service provider’s billing system to get an immediate
indicator of charging, but (a) the call certainly went through and I heard the
message (I can also see it in the Asterisk logs), and (b) the cable modem
which my telephone connection goes through shows the call as “not answered”,
which I take to mean that I won’t be charged for it.

I made the exception for Germany because I believe they have legislation that effectively means that they have to support early media for compliance. I forget the details, but it might be a requirement not to bill for calls stuck in a queue.

For everyone involved in this topic, I asked to sip provider and it replied that it doesn’t support “Early Media”
