Cisco 7911G support

Hi!

I’d like to ask wheter Asterisk is compatible with Cisco’s 7911G phone (the replacement of the 7912G) or not?

I was told by Cisco, that the 7911G supports a different (newer) SIP protocol so it can’t work with Asterisk. Is this true?
