Can't start AMI properly

I wanted to use AMI.
I configured the file manager.conf as described on i.e. asterisk.voip-info.org and other sites.
After I restarted Asterisk I executed

root# telnet 127.0.0.1 5038

I got the only following:

Connected to localhost.localdomain (127.0.0.1)
Escape character is ‘^]’.
Asterisk Call Manager/1.0

…then nothing… no login line etc.

Questions:

1.Is there something in the configuration I possibly could have been forgotten ?

2.Is there something else I didn’t take into account ?

Thanks in advance !

the bit you’ve forgotten is reading how to use the AMI.

voip-info.org/wiki/view/Asterisk+manager+API

Thank you very much!

I looked at the page in the link you gave me and I was a little surprised I had to define Action, Username etc. myself.
But I did so and got the message

Authentication accepted.

After I use the following

Action: Originate
Channel: SIP/50001
Exten: 50001
Priority: 1
Context: default

and it works!!!

Using the AMI looks like the years in mid 70’s.
You have to define explicitly yourself.

By the way I’m using Asterisk version 1.2.8

Thanks a lot Baconbuttie !!!
