Can we send and recive messages using asterisk server

How can we send and receive messages using an Asterisk server? Does Asterisk support something like that, or is there any third-party software that we can use to send and receive messages using Asterisk server on our DID numbers?

Asterisk has support for messaging, but if your question is actually how do you do that using your DID numbers then that’s up to the provider they are with. You would need to investigate how they expect it to be done - if at all.

Please define “message”.

Antony.

A few words to be cautious of between American and English:

  • momentarily

  • suspenders

  • chips

  • pants

  • jelly

  • pavement

  • vest

  • pint (and gallon)

  • pissed

Also sending SMS messages from any VoiP client is treated as automated use in the USA, so if intend to send SMS with a US destination, you need to register under the 10DLC rules, even if they are not used as part of an [advertising] “campaign”.

(Strictly speaking, an Asterisk server is the machine on which Asterisk is running, so messages could be sent using unrelated software. When Asterisk itself sends them using SIP, it is acting as a client. Third party software would also be subject to 10DLC rules.)
