Asterisk call flow question

Hi,

This is a basic question but I could not find a clear answer about it after Googling. After a call gets established through Asterisk does the actual audio traffic go through Asterisk itself, or is it between the two IP phones?

That depends on configuration. If using the same codecs and direct media is enabled, then it can go directly. Otherwise it will be relayed through Asterisk. Other conditions can also impact this - such as needing to see DTMF for features or recording.
