To all the newbies (Like me)

Just wanted to say that you CAN install Asterisk and get it working.
I have been lurking here for a couple of weeks now… Just reading and learning. EVERYTHING you need to know to get it working is here.

I have had a Trixbox setup going now for 3 days…

It installed flawlessly. The information to configure it is all here.

I got a SIP trunk and a DID. Everything is working perfectly.

Using X-lite softphone.

So don’t give up or get frustrated. The info is all here.

I just tested using softphone from the house next door over the internet. Setup as an extension. No problem.

Next I need to figure out faxing…I need to be able to send and receive faxes thru the SIP number… This is great software. KUDOS to the developers.

Well done. The more the merrier as they say. Asterisk is the best thing since… Linux.

Good luck with faxing over the internet. In general it is a let down. Asterisk does not support T.38 (protocol for faxing over the internet). I believe that it will be supported in 1.6.X.
