Does Ubuntu Server offer any advantages over Debian for running Asterisk? Kernel preemption, real-time features, tweaks, repositories?
Opinions, preferences?

a) Ubuntu has far more frequent releases than Debian, therefore it keeps up to
date with Asterisk releases better
b) Asterisk exists in Ubuntu. The package does not exist in Debian Bookworm
(old stable) or Trixie (current stable). The most recent Asterisk release in
Debian stable was Asterisk 16.28 (throughly End-of-Life for the Asterisk
project) in Debian Bullseye (long-term support until August 2026 only).
Antony.

It may not seem obvious, but (6 x 5 + 5) x 5 - 55 equals 5!
Be aware, though, that Asterisk as provided by distributions is not guaranteed to be the same as what the project provides from a source code perspective. Debian, for example, includes patches including one that we had to revert due to issues it introduced.
Yep. I’ve had back luck with distro Asterisk packages. I prefer to install from source.
Debian is the ultimate rock-solid OS. It doesn’t install any extra “frills” that you didn’t ask for. But it has just about the widest range of packages available for extra functionality, when you need it and do ask for it.
Hi there
You can use Asterisk from Debian oldoldstable in oldstable but not in stable.
As far as I can tell, Asterisk in Debian unstable is reasonably up to date. To use this version just build a backport.
