I am supplying small community based VoIP service from home. I just purchased 4 licenses from digium. and only allowed g729 codec. All goes well but when the call is answered, I hear continuous beep sound…kind of scrichy noise…Can anyone help? The codec registered fine and i can see my channels active.

Do U use soft/hard phones? Is all phone connected to LAN or Internet?

Try using other general codec first like gsm/ulaw/alaw and have the matching codec on soft/hard phone.

Make sure the bought codec is enabled in asterisk/extension configuration (default disallow=all allow=ulaw/alaw)

I had this same issue with my SOYO IP phone. I had to allow the specific codec in the extensions.conf
here is a sample
[6270BLT]
username=6270
secret=******
disallow=all
allow=gsm
allow=ulaw
allow=alaw
Well that is the piece you need anyways I would probably in your general section put in
[general]
disallow=all
allow=g729
this has been solved. Digium replied back and it was a wrong codec_g729 installed.
