Setup performance tests

Hello,
I’d like to start a few performance testing with Asterisk solution, combined with Cloud hosting (amazon or ovh).
I need to be able to execute login and call with virtual users (ie.: with sipp).

What would be the best version of Asterisk to deploy ?

Do you have any interesting experiences or advices in this domain ?
What are the best practices and what should be avoid ?

You can find a lot of POF or tests of students projects. Google it.
