Reasons for choppy Voice

Hi,

I am using Asterisk 1.4.20 with FreePBX 2.5.1.0.
Hardware is a Quad Xeon™ CPU 2.40GHz processor with 1 GB RAM.
2 Trunks, 10 Extensions, 10-12 Simultaneous calls.
10 G729 Licenses.
Client: EyeBeam on g729

Average CPU utilization is about 1%
Cpu(s): 1.3%us, 0.7%sy, 0.0%ni, 97.6%id, 0.0%wa, 0.1%hi, 0.2%si, 0.0%st
RAM:
Mem: 1035184k total, 403156k used, 632028k free, 41012k buffers

I am facing serious sound breaking (cracking) problem.
I need help & advice from forum members as to what all should I check to locate any errors.
No errors in /var/log/asterisk/full.

Please advise checkpoint to identify the error and solve this problem.

My OS is CentOS release 5.2 (Final)

Just one reason that might cause this problem. Phones (softphones and hardphones) have an option called silence surpression or something like that. The idea is to stop transfering data if it is only silence.

Asterisk can’t handle this properly and the result is bad sound quality.

Any idea which option is this on EyeBeam ??

I grew a lot of grey hairs from EyeBeam. I use Zoiper and I am very happy with it. A bad node on your network can do it as well. If it is over the internet then the reason can be very obvious.
