Reading status of remote peers

Dear people of Asterisk.

I run a large network with multiple Asterisks connected with IAX trunks.
Is it possible for one server to query another one to see if a specific client is registered so that i can simplify and automate call routing between said servers.

Are you using Dial, Switch or Dundi to call between server ?

At present we have been using Dial only
