Playing a WAV file

I am using NCH’s WavePad (licensed version) to create prompts. While the WavePad can save as GSM (and NCH’s Switch Plus makes short work of converting a folder of sounds) the WAV file just sounds better. GSM is lossy/grainy/cell call sounding.

My problem is that the resulting Wav file won’t play in Asterisk. I am saving as an 8 bit/8k sample (telco standard), but Asterisk rejects the sound file, claiming it can’t handle larger than 16 bit sampling.

This might another in the long line of WIN vs. Linux things, but not obviously so, Music Box plays the WAV file without a hiccup. Any suggestions?

you could put it into audacity and modify it to a compatible format.
