Not receiving calls behind firewall

You’ll have to assign me an extension on your * PBX, or I won’t be able to register into your PBX.

well, again that’s no fun like that… I’m able to make and receive calls, if I’m registered in * box, even from the outside… but what I’ve read is that I should be able to receive calls from users registered with the ekiga or gizmo network or even ppl logged in to their own * boxes… is this true, if it’s not then I’m not receiving calls b/c it’s not spoused to happens and then I apologized.

thanks

Now I understand. I think what you’re wanting is possible, but for any softfone to connect to any other softfone, the pbx’s into which they’re registered need to be able to connect to each other.

So, if I understand correctly, calls through my * PBX from my softfone, to your softfone through your * PBX, would be possible, but only if our * PBX’s knew how to ‘talk’ to each other.

Also, my softfone could connect to your softfone, through your * PBX, as long as your * PBX is ‘connected’ to the ‘network’ to which my softfone is registered.

Have you set up your * PBX to ‘connect’ to any service providers?

This is what I’m talking about!..do I need a service provider to receive calls from ppl registered with ekiga or gizmo network?

thanks

Yes, I think you do.

John

Yes, you need a “telephone number” for people to call if they are not registered on your pbx. If they are registered on your pbx and use the same context as the one you(X-lite) are using then they can get to you by dialing 2000(again only if dialing 2000 is configured through dialplan) to ring your phone.

hth

If you hadn’t configured your * with your VoIP account from GizmoProject and/or other VoSP accounts, how did you place a call to others on such VoSP networks, let alone to receive incoming calls from them? Obviously, you were able to place outgoing calls as shown on your very first post and I quoted below; however, you didn’t mention to whom you place the calls to, i.e. an extension registered to your asterisk system from outside your private LAN or a number registered to other VoSP.

I have my LaFonera WiFi router running with OpenWRT + asterisk-1.4.19 connected to my main NAT/Firewall router without any port forwarding and my asterisk system has no problems to register more than 50 channels for me to place/receive calls to/from anyone on so many different VoSP networks. For you, why not register a new account on GizmoProject. Then, configure this newly created GizmoProject account on your asterisk and see if you can place/receive calls to/from friends on the same GizmoProject network. In this case, until you have successfully managed to place/receive calls to/from other GizmoProject users, I would say there is something wrong with the configurations on your asterisk system.

had posting twice I apologize…

I was able to place calls to extensions registered with my * server outside my lan, and also to place calls to my account with the ekiga and gizmo network located outside my lan…

this is exactly what I want to do…I have already an account with gizmo and ekiga…but I didn’t know that my * box needed configuration for this, in order for me to receive calls… I thought that with the nat setting was enough…could you point me in a direction where I could follow so I can make this configuration…

thanks

What brand/model NAT/Firewall router do you use and under what private subnet?

my usual setup includes an ipcop firewall and a private network of 192.168.1.0/24

thanks

Shouldn’t the subnet be 10.x.y.z/8 instead of 10.x.y.z/24?

ohh no I made a mistake is 127.68.10.0/24

sorry… lol

No problem. What concerned me was your private LAN is on a class A subnet and you assigned a class C netmask of 255.255.255.0. If your asterisk and ATA and/or softphone are on different subnet (still within the same private LAN space), then asterisk probably won’t be able to reach the ATA or xlite and vice versa.
