I have just setup an asf audio stream to asterisk using the example in this thread that describes how to create a MOH setup using a custom application (in this case VLC media player).
All is working well and I can hear the audio from VLC through a call, the problem is…
…I notice that the ethernet port led on the Asterisk (version 13 btw) server is constantly flashing meaning there’s a continuous stream of network traffic no matter if the call is in session or not.
Running ‘top’ on the command line shows that there is considerable cpu and memory used up by VLC and I am assuming that this is because the stream is always connected and running in the background for when a call is to be placed.
I would have assumed VLC only running when the call is placed and ending on hangup? Is this correct behaviour?
