Newbie: Is Asterisk right solution for my custom conference server

I want to be able to host conference calls where:

  • Only the host can hear everyone’s audio.

  • All callers can send audio, but they’re not getting anything back.

I’ve basically found out that no conference call services do this, and I’m wondering if I can roll my own and self host. I’m a web developer & don’t know about how voice infrastructure works, is Asterisk what I want? Wondering if I can modify some generic conference call server boilerplate and get this “muting” behavior that I want.
