Max retries exceeded on call, poor audio,dropping calls

SIP phone at a remote location via private WAN ( no internet).
User complains of echo and poor audio, call drops.

Asterisk Messages: Call too LAGGED and max retries exceeded on call

Ping times are great 9ms, no dropped packets.

Any recommendations on where to start looking ?

Ethernet switch?

Your symptoms roughly match what i’ve been experiencing and i’m almost certain my problems are caused by ethernet switches. I haven’t had time to replace them yet though.

Could you provide more info with regards to hardware/softphones being used in this setup.

I did read that the message “max retries exceeded on call” can mean that the cpu is lagging behind, but never verified this claim.

Also, run the tests of sip show peers from the CLI and see what it says…
