Ip phone novice/ am inheriting phone system

Hello,

I have no idea how to begin, but we have two phones that are offline in the office. I’m in the dark about it.

What do I need to get these phones back on line?

Thanks!

  1. Determine whether you are dealing with Asterisk.

  2. If you are, go to http://www.asteriskdocs.org/ and start reading.

Your question is too broad to answer before you have obtained a basic understanding.

If it’s asterisk, run “ps -eaf |grep asterisk” to see if it’s running. If not, run “/etc/init.d/asterisk start” (as root). You may need to reboot the phones to get them to re-register. This is only in the case that you previously had a functioning asterisk system and nothing else has changed. Before rebooting the phones, run “asterisk -rvvvvvvvv” to watch the CLI and see if there are attempts to register. That may give you more info.

Hi David and all, I’m going into this incorrectly, thinking someone in house can take care of this issue. Does anyone know a service provider in the bay area who can help with these issues? We are based in Sausalito and need some Asterisk support. Thanks!
