Installing Asterisk 10.8 with Definite Guide 3rd Ed

Hi. I was wondering about the installation instructions for Asterisk in the book, which I have, “Asterisk: The Definitive Guide 3rd Edition”. That book describes the installation of version 1.8.x.

(1) Will I be able to install the latest version (currently 10.8.0) using the instructions in that book? Or are there some (possibly significant) differences?

(2) Does this book still apply (installation, configuration and usage), largely, to the latest version of Asterisk (10.8.0)?

I’m not sure how much Asterisk has changed between version 1.8.x and 10.8 – it looks like quite a version jump.
I am installing on CentOS 6.3.

I think that the majority of things from “Asterisk: The Definitive Guide 3rd Edition” apply also to Asterisk 1.10. A lot of core things and principles stay the same through Asterisk version. For the detailed version changes check out the Asterisk Wiki.
