Help with old Asterisk install

I am not very familiar with Asterisk, but I’ve been asked to help fix a Asterisk server that is not working for a friend at a small organization.

Here is the situation -
They had an Asterisk server setup for them in 2006 by a volunteer. It is running Asterisk@Home version 2.7 and they were utilizing a Digium TE110 with their T1. Earlier this month they moved to a new location. When they tried to get the new T1 working, they didn’t know what to do.

When I looked at it, I noticed that Asterisk wasn’t starting. I checked the asterisk log and found this:

asterisk1.local:/var/log/asterisk > tail /var/log/asterisk/full Mar 22 14:09:55 DEBUG[27668] db.c: Unable to find key '271' in family 'IAX/Regis try' Mar 22 14:09:55 DEBUG[27668] db.c: Unable to find key '295' in family 'IAX/Regis try' Mar 22 14:09:55 DEBUG[27668] db.c: Unable to find key '296' in family 'IAX/Regis try' Mar 22 14:09:55 VERBOSE[27668] logger.c: [chan_zap.so]Mar 22 14:09:55 VERBOSE[2 7668] logger.c: [chan_zap.so] => (Zapata Telephony w/PRI) Mar 22 14:09:55 WARNING[27668] chan_zap.c: Unable to specify channel 1: No such device or address Mar 22 14:09:55 ERROR[27668] chan_zap.c: Unable to open channel 1: No such devic e or address here = 0, tmp->channel = 1, channel = 1 Mar 22 14:09:55 ERROR[27668] chan_zap.c: Unable to register channel '1-16' Mar 22 14:09:55 WARNING[27668] loader.c: chan_zap.so: load_module failed, return ing -1 Mar 22 14:09:55 WARNING[27668] loader.c: Loading module chan_zap.so failed!

I am not sure what to check or how to get this up and running again.

If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. I am also willing to pay someone a small fee if they are willing to login remotely and correct the issue.

Thx,
Patrick

from the log it seems that is dahdi driver problem and not asterisk .
what are the outputs of asterisk -rx “pri show spans” and asterisk -rx “dahdi show channels” commands ?
I can connect remotely to solve the problem .

Since the error is that chan_zap.co cannot load, the problem cannot be dahdi, because they are not using dahdi, but the older zaptel drivers.

From the Linux command line, as root, enter the command ‘/etc/init.d/zaptel start’. Are there any errors reported?

If there is, issue the command ‘zaptel_hardware’ and report the output.

If there was not, connect to the Asterisk CLI and type ‘module load chan_zap.so’. Does the error continue to occur?

Thanks for the tips so far. This is greatly appreciated!

Asterisk isn’t even starting so I wasn’t able to issue the commands that are dependent on Asterisk running. I was able to issue the start zaptel command:

asterisk1.local:/root > /etc/init.d/zaptel start Loading zaptel framework: [ OK ] Waiting for zap to come online...OK Loading zaptel hardware modules: wcte11xpRunning ztcfg: [ OK ]

That looks OK.

When I issue ‘amportal start’, I get this:
STARTING ASTERISK
Asterisk ended with exit status 1
Asterisk died with code 1.
Automatically restarting Asterisk.

Asterisk could not start!
Use ‘tail /var/log/asterisk/full’ to find out why.
-----------------------------------------------------
And the log shows this:

asterisk1.local:/root > tail /var/log/asterisk/full Mar 23 08:33:45 DEBUG[1535] db.c: Unable to find key '295' in family 'IAX/Regist ry' Mar 23 08:33:45 DEBUG[1535] db.c: Unable to find key '296' in family 'IAX/Regist ry' Mar 23 08:33:45 VERBOSE[1535] logger.c: [chan_zap.so]Mar 23 08:33:45 VERBOSE[15 35] logger.c: [chan_zap.so] => (Zapata Telephony w/PRI) Mar 23 08:33:45 WARNING[1535] config.c: No '=' (equal sign) in line 11 of zapata .conf Mar 23 08:33:45 WARNING[1535] chan_zap.c: Unable to specify channel 1: No such d evice or address Mar 23 08:33:45 ERROR[1535] chan_zap.c: Unable to open channel 1: No such device or address here = 0, tmp->channel = 1, channel = 1 Mar 23 08:33:45 ERROR[1535] chan_zap.c: Unable to register channel '1-16' Mar 23 08:33:45 WARNING[1535] loader.c: chan_zap.so: load_module failed, returni ng -1 Mar 23 08:33:45 WARNING[1535] loader.c: Loading module chan_zap.so failed! asterisk1.local:/root >

I was able to get asterisk to start by telling it not to load the chan_zap.so at start. After it did start, I issued the command “load chan_zap.so” at the Asterisk command line and got this:

asterisk1*CLI> load chan_zap.so Unable to load module chan_zap.so Loaded /usr/lib/asterisk/modules/chan_zap.so => (Zapata Telephony w/PRI)

the original error reports a problem parsing /etc/asterisk/zapata.conf.
Please post the contents of the file.

Also, to make sure the zaptel drivers load at boot, run this command from the Linux command line as the root user.
