I am looking into setting up a local PBX to replace our Centrex when the next hurricane knocks out the phone system. In the aftermath of Rita we were without phones for more than two weeks. We were not able to use our phones to talk from office to office even though there was no damage to our wiring. Our LAN kept right on working and we were able to reconnect our WAN through a satellite dish, but our phones had to be able to talk to Phone company before they could talk to each other.
